Bayer’s trip to Budapest was a nice taste – and it wasn’t because of the 0-1 defeat with the B squad.
Some Leverkusen fans who traveled with them insulted Ferencvaros coach Peter Stoger, 55, as a “son of a bitch” during and after the match.
Reason: Stöger was coach of 1. FC Köln from 2013 to 2017.
I heard that. Stoeger responded with a self-confident ‘There are worse things in the world.’ He just laughed at the Baer gang: ‘If they’re having fun…’
Minolf Sprink, Bayer 04’s Director of Fans and Social Affairs, was given the service: “I found it embarrassing. Mr. Stoeger has never been wrong with us.”
Leverkusen coach Gerardo Seoane (43) also jumped sideways for Stöger.
“I didn’t notice it in the game, I was told about it afterwards. That is of course not fun – especially for a fellow coach,” Siwan said, “I understand that the rivalry with FC is there because of the derby and that each other is a little angry. Well. But you have to stay in a decent area. There is a certain line you have to stick to. That was definitely clear about that.”
Seoane continues: “Just as I wouldn’t want that to happen to me, I certainly wouldn’t wish you would be attacked like that for a fellow coach, absolutely nobody, over a longer period of time.”
