Is this bitter for Victor Boniface (23)! Bayer Leverkusen star suffers serious injury!
The scorer, who was preparing to play in the African Cup of Nations finals with Nigeria, suffered a serious thigh injury during training with his national team.
He will not be able to play in the tournament in Ivory Coast. He bid farewell to his team through his account on the social networking site Instagram: “All the best, boys! I wish you success in the African Cup of Nations.”
An MRI scan on Monday at the training camp in Dubai revealed the devastating diagnosis. Boniface is expected to be out for six weeks!
Instead of going to the African Cup, he will return to Leverkusen where he will receive treatment. This means that he will miss the German League leaders for a longer period than the African Cup!
And things could get worse for Bayer: 24-year-old FERK attacking player Nathan Tella is considered a candidate to replace Boniface in the Nigeria squad.
Tella was already in the expanded squad, but was not nominated for the African Cup at the beginning of the year. This has brought comfort to Leverkusen. The previously unbeaten Bundesliga leaders deploy defenders Edmund Tapsoba (24) and Odilon Kosono (23) and attacking star Admin Adly (23) for the Africa Cup.
