At the Sportlounge 2022 at the Grafenegg Riding School, Lower Austria’s Athletes and Teams of the Year were honored for the 46th time. Benjamin Karl won the men’s title. The most successful skater ever completed his gold medal collection in the giant parallel slalom at the Beijing Winter Olympics. Jessica Biles, who took silver in the climbing lead and bronze in tuning competitions at the European Climbing Championships, won the women’s class. In addition, the women from The Hague won the gold medal for the lead at the World Games. “Your achievements, you are a great role model for young and old. The whole of Lower Austria is proud,” said Regional Council Member Jochen Daninger (ÖVP).
St. Polten Football Team of the Year
Team of the Year was the SKN Women’s Team St. Polten. The Kickers won the double and were the first Austrian team to advance to the group stage of the Women’s Football Champions League. The Aigner Brothers trio have won all the awards among parachute sportsmen. The first place was won by Johannes Aigner, a 17-year-old figure skater. The “Greatest Sports Moment” was selected for the first time. The win in the public vote went to tennis star Dominic Thiem with his Grand Slam title at the 2020 US Open.
