Billion order: Siemens builds 73 trains to the United States

Siemens Mobility has received orders from the American National Railroad Passengers Association to manufacture 73 trains. The order is worth $ 3.4 billion and trains are due to be delivered from 2024. The company said it was the largest contract awarded to Siemens in North America. This can be expanded by 140 additional trains and other maintenance contracts as needed.

Amtrak hopes to gain more than 1.5 million additional passengers a year by expanding and reducing travel time associated with it.

“We will replace our 40- to 50-year-old fleet with modern American-made trains and systems,” said Amtrak CEO Bill Flynn. Michael Peter, CEO of Siemens Mobility. “Amtrak’s investment clearly shows that the United States is interested in improving its rail network and making it more stable for its passengers.” Shortly after taking office, US President Joe Biden unveiled a plan to modernize US infrastructure.
