Difficult access conditions due to snowfall were responsible for the start of the match between Bozen and VSV after an hour. The hosts wanted revenge for the 6-3 defeat in Villach, but the Eagles wouldn’t allow it after a solid performance. Supported by the famous JP Lamourex, VSV held zero for a long time to hit the ice cold in the third period.
A duel developed at eye level from the first second, giving the hosts more chances in the first 40 minutes. VSV also had first-class chances, but initially fell short due to the equally excellent Bolzano goalkeeper Sam Harvey.
In the final section little changed in the scenario, both teams pushed the attack, so chances were a logical consequence for both sides.
VSV didn’t deserve the first goal. After a powerful shot from the blue line, Harvey only managed to let the puck bounce, and Blaz Tomazevic sank the rebounding ice. The tie occurred to approximately 1:1 on the same eye. The VSV goalie also missed a shot, Mike Halmo was the fastest on the puck. The equalizer did not bother the Eagles, who again took the lead on a quick counterattack. Harvey had no chance against the powerful shot from John Hughes. Anthony Luciani nailed VSV’s next victory with a score of 3:1.
