Börse Express – Foreign Exchange: The Euro is falling again

New York (dpa-AFX) – Euro It fell again on Thursday after the previous day's rebound. Following surprisingly good economic data from the US and an interest rate decision by the European Central Bank, the single currency in New York recently fell to $1.0837 – hitting a daily low of $1.0822. The European Central Bank had set the reference rate at 1.0893 (Wednesday: 1.0905) dollars, so the dollar costs 0.9180 (0.9170) euros.

The US economy grew more than expected in the last quarter of 2023. In contrast, the Ifo business climate, the most important German economic barometer, continued to be surprisingly low at the beginning of the year. They both preferred the dollar over the common currency. However, there were no surprises from the ECB: as expected, it left the eurozone's key interest rate unchanged.
