The British monarch and his wife will be received with military honors in Berlin on Wednesday. France must wait first.
British King Charles III. He and his wife, Camilla, arrived in Berlin on Wednesday, kicking off a three-day state visit to Germany. In fact, the first trip of the king should have been to France, but the state visit was canceled. Instead, the royal couple arrived at the military part of Berlin Brandenburg Airport on Wednesday afternoon. In the city center, German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Bodenbender want to welcome the two later with military honors at the Brandenburg Gate.
Several hours before the arrival of the royal couple, many visitors were waiting to see Charles and Camilla. After the salutations, a reception and state banquet in the King’s honor were planned at Bellevue Palace, Steinmeier’s official residence.
Tight schedule – from Berlin to Hamburg
Berlin Mayor Franziska Giffe and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Thursday welcomed the royal couple. Charles is also the first monarch to address the German Bundestag.
Later, King and Steinmeier met Prime Minister Dietmar Wodecky in Brandenburg, where, among other things, a visit to an organic farm was on the agenda. Then Charles and Camilla drive to Hamburg on Friday, where the state visit ends for the evening.
Germany is the first destination for the new British king before his coronation on May 6. A previously planned visit to France was postponed due to protests over pensions there.
