HC Pustertal won 4:3 after extra time against Olimpija Ljubljana and won the pre-qualifying series 2:1.
Ljubljana took the lead in an intense play-off match through Pisevskis who parried Bance's long-range shot into the net (sixth). The Wolves quickly return to their home base: the puck bounces off Catenacci's helmet, past Ljubljana goalkeeper Horac and into the goal, thus drawing the Pusterers level (12th place).
Less than 40 seconds later, Mantinger put South Tyrol ahead with an artificial shot between his legs (also 12th). Before the first period break, Mahkovic restored parity with his third goal of the Round of 16 series after a 2-on-1 – 2:2 breakaway after 14 minutes.
Magovac put the Slovenians back in front in the middle half (26th minute), and no further goals were achieved until the third period despite alternating phases of pressure from Ljubljana and Postertal: Fryklund stepped up and scored to make it 3-3 (43rd minute). .
At the end of normal time there was still no winner, and Ljubljana goalkeeper Lukas Horak leads the South Tyrol team to despair in extra time. Only 15 minutes into extra time was Schofield able to seal the win for a powerful Wolves side.
