In the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund occupied the vacant goalkeeper position behind regular goalkeeper Gregor Kopel. As the vice-champion announced on Friday, Alexander Mayer moves from second division Jan Regensburg to Dortmund in the BVB.
The 31-year-old has signed a contract until 2024, in which he inherits reserve goalkeeper Roman Burke and Marwin Hitz, who will leave the club in the summer.
“He has been without a doubt one of the strongest goalkeepers in the second Bundesliga in recent years,” Serie A sporting director Sebastian Kehl said of the new signing. Mayer is a very experienced goalkeeper who is calm and of high quality.
“When a club like BVB calls us, you don’t have to think twice. From a sporting point of view, they are a totally big team, and you don’t even have to talk about the atmosphere on the field. Just thinking about the yellow wall, I get goosebumps,” Meyer said. I’m really looking forward to the new assignment and also to be part of the BVB family.”
Mayer played 30 league games for Regensburg last season, and played a total of 94 House games. The goalkeeper, who went through the youth division of Hamburg SV, has previously played for Energy Cottbus and VFB Stuttgart, among others.
Additionally, BVB brought in Dutch youth player Jayden Braff. The 19-year-old attacking talent has signed a contract until 2025.
