Dortmund – Wednesday, March 2, 2022, 3:58 pm
Borussia Dortmund has withdrawn its honorary membership from former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder with immediate effect.
This is the German Bundesliga team’s response to the 77-year-old’s unwillingness to resign from his management positions at Russian state-owned energy companies as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“The club’s president, Dr. Reinhard Raubal, informed the former Chancellor in a personal meeting this morning about the corresponding and unanimous decision of the Executive Committee,” the BVB said on Wednesday.
The German Football Association is also putting pressure on Schroeder. The German Football Association gives the politician an ultimatum, according to which he will give up his jobs in the Russian state-owned companies before the German Football Association on March 11. Otherwise, Schroeder may also lose his honorary membership of the German Football Association.
