The American Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a dynasty as “the most powerful or successful family in a long time.” Europeans have their noble homes for this, but they are not in the United States. The country emerged from a revolution, and the founders had no intention of following in the footsteps and claims of power based on them in their new nation.
This does not always work in practice. Although there are no nobles in America, there are dynasties, economics and politics. To quote Merriam-Webster again, the Kennedys are the best family “for a long time” the most powerful in the United States. Since emigrating from Ireland in the mid-19th century, they have produced senators, members of parliament, ministers and even a president. The Kennedys shaped American politics, and by their charms and tragedies they touched society like any other family.
There is history, power and personal misfortune in their lives
All elements of the Kennedy myth come together in Caroline Bowie Kennedy, who was nominated by President Joe Biden as US Ambassador to Australia this week. Father is: President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963 in Dallas. Mother is: First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, You Poe, remarried to Onassis, who was an example of elegance and strength to an entire generation. The uncles are: Bobby Kennedy, minister and presidential candidate, who was assassinated in 1968, and Ted Kennedy, a powerful senator. And brother: John Jr., died in a plane crash in 1999. And American history, political power, and personal misfortune cannot be packed into a single life.
Caroline Kennedy was born in 1957, and her youth was like that of a daughter of a liberal East Coast elite: private schools, residences in Washington and New York, trips to Europe, summer vacations in the Cape Forest. She rode a pony in the garden. At the White House, Soviet President Nikita Khrushchev gave him a puppy, and singer Neil Diamond wrote his hit “Sweet Caroline” in 1969 after seeing his photo.
Kennedy is a force to be reckoned with in the Democratic Party
Carolyn Kennedy later studied at Harvard, graduated with a law degree from Columbia University, and began working at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. There he met artist and supervisor Edwin Schlossberg, whom he married and has three children. The couple is currently living apart.
In addition to Caroline Kennedy’s widespread cultural and social commitment, Caroline Kennedy is in the three – digit range. He is the current head of the family, he represents the Kennedys, and they are still a force to be reckoned with in the Democratic Party – in contrast, for example, to Bush among Republicans. In 2008, Caroline Kennedy surprised the party with her election nomination for young climber Barack Obama, who, as she wrote at the time, remembered her father. This was a pain for Obama’s pre-election opponent Hillary Clinton. Obama won and in 2013 Kennedy was appointed ambassador to Japan.
So now Caroline Kennedy has to represent the United States in Canberra. This is not a place to rest: Biden wants to counter China’s growing influence in the Pacific. Australia plays a very important role as an ally in its strategy, as the recently sealed Defense Coalition with the abbreviation Awkus shows. An ambassador who knows the region, who belongs to a very important democratic dynasty, and whose last name guarantees that the President will answer the phone at the White House when he calls – can not be heard much by the Australian government.
