More and more unsafe encounters
The number of cases where Chinese aircraft and ships have opposed US and allied forces in the Pacific has increased significantly, Chief of Staff Mark Milley said on a trip through the Indo-Pacific. The number of unsafe encounters is also increasing. Countries affected include Japan, Canada, Australia, Philippines and Vietnam.

Millie’s tour stopped in Indonesia on Sunday. The US is trying to expand its relationship with the Pacific countries to counter China. Pacific nations like Indonesia want the U.S. military to remain in the region, Milley said. The US wanted to work with them “so that they can deal with any challenge that China poses.”
