China: US sends wrong and dangerous signals to Taiwan – Politics –

China has accused the US of sending false and dangerous signals to Taiwan. The Taiwan issue is China’s internal matter. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is reported to have said that the United States has no right to interfere in resolving the issue. The more Taiwan strives for independence, the less likely it is for a peaceful solution.

UN in New York Wang Yi met with his US counterpart Anthony Blinken on Friday at the General Assembly meeting. According to senior US officials, the 90-minute “open and honest” talks focused on Taiwan.

Blinken made it clear once again that nothing has changed in America’s long-standing one-China policy and that maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is critical. The U.S. State Department has previously said the U.S. wants these talks to keep ties with China open and that the U.S. is ready to work together on issues of global interest.

Last week, US President Joe Biden reaffirmed US military support for Taiwan in the event of a Chinese attack. China strongly objected to this.

China considers Taiwan a breakaway province, and the Taiwan issue has strained US-China relations for decades. The conflict came to a head recently after top US politician Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan.

Taiwan’s foreign ministry said of the meeting between Wang and Blinken that China’s recent provocations have made the Taiwan Strait a focus of discussion. China is trying to confuse the international audience with untruthful arguments and criticism.
