'Chuck's Life' Wins Toronto Film Festival

Mike Flanagan's “Chuck's Life” has been named the winner of the 49th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The announcement was made by festival president Cameron Bailey during the awards ceremony in Toronto. The adaptation of a short story by Stephen King, starring Tom Hiddleston in the lead role, has wowed audiences in the Canadian city.

Hiddleston plays accountant Charles “Chuck” Krantz, whose life story is told in reverse chronological order. Mark Hamill, Karen Gillan, and Chiwetel Ejiofor also star.

Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Perez,” starring Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez, took second place, and Sean Baker’s “Anora” took third place. Viewers voted for Best Documentary Feature to The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal, while the Midnight Madness award went to Coralie Fargeat’s “The Substance,” starring Demi Moore.

Unlike festivals like Cannes, Berlin and Venice, Toronto’s winners aren’t chosen by a jury. Instead, viewers vote for their favourites. This year’s 10-day TIFF featured more than 250 films competing for audience attention.
