The aim of this action was to pressure the French and Italian governments into taking action to curb climate change.
French and Italian climate activists closed the entrances to the Mont Blanc tunnels in Chamonix on the French side and in Courmayeur on the Italian side on Friday to draw attention to climate change. The action was carried out by about 20 activists from “Derniere Renovation” (France) and “Ultima Generazione” (Italy), two sister organizations belonging to the civil resistance movement A22.
“No gas” for the children of tomorrow
As snow fell, the activists occupied the road at the entrances to the tunnel and raised a yellow sign reading “No Gas”. Then the police removed the demonstrators.
The aim of this action was to pressure the French and Italian governments into taking action to curb climate change. “We are closing the road today to open a new road for the children of tomorrow,” said a 28-year-old protester.
