Hot future
German climate researcher Mujeeb Latif also believes that the two-degree threshold is fluctuating, criticizes climate conferences and calls for taking radical measures.
The Earth's temperature should not rise by 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial times – and if it does, the increase should be limited to at least less than 2 degrees. This is the goal of the Paris Climate Conference, which was agreed upon by the international community about eight years ago. But according to the United Nations Environment Programme, this goal is at risk of catastrophic failure. The average warming is already 1.3 degrees Celsius, and the temperature of continental Europe has risen by a factor of two.
