Cobb must surrender in qualifying final

This means there is still an ÖTV quartet on the centre court of the ATP tournament in Tirol – which Joel Schwarzler starts from.

It was a day of tennis with free entry for the whole family, which many fans did not miss. This Sunday, around 5,000 spectators witnessed not only the four exciting qualifying matches but also a lot of other things. For example, the concert of the band Folkshilfe or the One Shot Cup entertainment presented by and with Dominic Thiem.

Very bad luck for the Tyrolean homegrown hero Sandro Copp in the qualifying final for the 2024 Generali Open Kitzbühel! One day after his shock upset against the 2019 finalist, the Spanish number one Albert Ramos-Vinolas (ATP 97), Kramsacher (ATP 322) had to play against the Argentine left-hander Andrea Collarini (ATP 267) with a score of 2:6, 0:3 to give up: “My right shoulder gave up the spirit and nothing worked anymore. I tried the whole match, but it got worse and worse,” said the frustrated 24-year-old. That means there are four representatives of the red, white and red on the centre court of the ATP 250 summer classic in Kitzbühel.

The start on the centre court was made by third-ranked Lukas Klein (ATP 118) and seventh-ranked Finn Otto Virtanen (ATP 137). The Slovak, who had beaten Stan Wawrinka in Gstaad a few days earlier, continued his good form and won safely 6:2, 6:4. The other two matches on Sunday went the full distance: second-ranked Czech Vit Kopriva (ATP 112) beat Brazilian Gustavo Hyde (ATP 178) 3:6, 6:3, 7:5. The last player to qualify for the 28-man main grid was Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan (ATP 142) with a 6:4, 2:6, 6:2 win over fourth-ranked Serbian Hamed Medjedovic (ATP 122).

Schwarzler and Thiem pair against Erler on Monday

The first Austrian to play in Monday’s main event is Joel Schwarzler (ATP 394), who will play against Brazilian Thiago Seybot Wild (ATP 72) in the first round. Dominic Thiem will also be in action after appearing at the One Shot Cup invitational on Monday night: in doubles alongside Daniel Altmaier. The pair will play against another Austrian-German doubles team, Tyrolean defending champion Alexander Erler and Andreas Mies. Sebastian Ofner (ATP 50) will face Lucas Neumayer (ATP 288) in Tuesday’s Austrian duel, while last year’s finalist Thiem (ATP 133) will start against Argentina’s Thiago Agustin Tirante (ATP 121) on Tuesday evening.

Two current tournament winners at the Generali Open Kitzbühel 2024

There is also great anticipation in Kitzbühel for the current winners of the tournament: Nuno Borges and Matteo Berrettini. The Portuguese Borges (51st) has only beaten Spanish star Rafael Nadal in Sunday's final at the stadium and will enter Tuesday's match as the sixth seed at the Generali Open Kitzbühel. The Italian Berrettini, former world number six (ATP 82), won the final in Gstaad in straight sets against Frenchman Quentin Hales.

Monday at the Generali Open Kitzbühel is also dedicated to young people. Admission is free for everyone up to the age of 14 – with four or more children, admission is also free for the accompanying person. A sophisticated children's programme rounds off the day for the little ones. Thanks to the VVT (Tyrolean Transport Association), you can travel to the tournament free of charge from all over Tyrol.
