At the age of twenty-six, on a trip to London, he stopped in his native Vienna – and stayed. He would have been 100 years old on October 23: Gerhard Brunner.

Director Christian Hager follows in the footsteps of Gerhard Brunner, and in this documentary paints a detailed portrait of the Viennese native, whose career path was by no means taken for granted. Because of his Jewish origins, Broner had to accept the cruel blows of fate at an early age. His entire family was murdered by the Nazis, while he managed to escape to Palestine at the last minute, where he initially worked as a professional musician in the British Army. In 1948, Brunner returned to Vienna and began his comic book career as a cabaret artist, author, and composer. As a television pioneer, he had a decisive influence on the entertainment program of Austrian radio. He was on stage with artists such as Karl Farkas, Helmut Qualtinger, Georg Kreisler and Peter Wehl and helped young talents such as Marianne Mendt and Georg Danzer achieve national fame. With the help of selected archival treasures from 1956 to 2007, this film documents the artistic work of Gerhard Brunner. In addition to his daughter Vivienne and son Oscar, there are also notable friends and companions such as Marianne Mendt, Rudolf Buchbinder and Erwin Steinhauer.
