Jerusalem. After the myocarditis associated with the Biontech / Pfizer Covid-19 vaccinations occurred in Israel, the Ministry of Health there is now investigating the registered cases. Israeli Epidemic Control Coordinator Nahman Ashe said on Sunday that a preliminary study showed “dozens of cases” of myocarditis in more than five million people who were vaccinated, especially after the second dose.
However, it remains unclear whether the number of people with myocarditis is unusually high and whether this is related to the vaccine. The link between the disease and the vaccine is also difficult to establish because myocarditis often persists without complications and can be caused by a variety of viruses. A similar number of cases have also been reported in recent years.
Most of them are young people
In response to a question from Reuters news agency, the vaccine maker, Pfizer, said it was “aware of Israeli observations of the disease, which mostly occurred in young people who received the Pfizer / Biontech vaccine.” Adverse side effects are monitored regularly and carefully, and the company has not observed a higher rate of myocarditis than would be expected in the general population.
Israel is the world leader in vaccination against the Coronavirus pandemic. Nearly 60 percent of the country’s 9.3 million people have so far received the vaccine from Biontech / Pfizer. The national database has already shown that the Coronavirus vaccine protects against the symptoms of Covid-19 and the severe courses of this disease.
