Dad – Dark Speed

An album that casually begins with a Malcolm Young memorial song could only come from original musicians. “God Prays To Man” contains all the elements that make up great, timeless rock music: stunning guitar riffs, passionate vocals and a band that always exudes incredible charm with an unparalleled, slightly laid-back spontaneity. You would almost think that musicians never did anything else with their lives, but hey, in Dad's case, you know the boys dedicated their lives to music. The band celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Many newcomers will likely sell their last jersey because of the motivation and inspiration DAD shows after four decades.

Danish beer is clearly a youth-giving elixir, and there is no other way to explain the continuing level of excellence of the four Danes. In my opinion, DAD is at its strongest in its swinging moments, for example on the opener “God Prays To Man”, the upbeat “1st, 2nd & 3rd”, the catchy “The Ghost” and the wonderfully melodic ballad “Live By Fire”. Or the band's typical “Keep That MF Down” can be heard. The quieter tones are no less brilliant, as evidenced by the quiet, melancholic “Head Over Heels”, the country/new wave hybrid “Crazy Wings” and the thoughtful “I'm Still Here” “As usual, Dad continued the level until the end, the four of them probably couldn’t even create a real stench on purpose.

There are few criticisms of “Speed Of Darkness”; The only drawback is the five-year wait since the last album. And that's a good thing, because that's the only way “Speed Of Darkness” can develop into the next long-lasting hit. However, Danish Dynamite caught on for me this time too and will become a permanent part of my playlist in the long run.
