Controversy over time changes in the European Union
Published: October 29, 2023 at 8:00 am
Daylight saving time ended last night. The clock in Europe has been moved back to standard time from 3 to 2 p.m.
This is likely to start discussions about the pros and cons of this measure once again, as the end of the time change at the EU level is still a long time away. The ball is still in the court of the EU Council of Ministers, which last discussed scrapping the twice-yearly time change in June 2019; Transport ministers are responsible.
In March 2019, the European Parliament voted by a large majority to abolish daylight saving time. However, a majority of member states must still agree for this to become a reality. However, the current presidency of the Spanish Council has no corresponding plans, council departments told APA.
