On October 14 (3:00pm local time/9:00pm CET/RTL) national coach Hansi Flick meets USA in Hartford, Connecticut, USA. Both countries will co-host the 2026 World Cup with Canada.
The tie with Mexico is the first since they met in the opening game of Group F at Russia 2018, losing 1-0 to the then world champions. The 65,000-plus capacity Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia is one of 16 venues for the upcoming Finals.
A mid-season trip with league and European Cup games has already sparked criticism. He didn’t understand the tour, said national record player Lothar Mathes: “What do we want in America at this point?” On the other hand, DFB director Rudi Wöller thinks it is “important to be on site in view of the upcoming World Cup”.
Before the trip, the season starts in September 2024 with two home games with the high point of the European Championship. The fight with four-time Asian champion Japan, the last opponent in the World Cup in Qatar (1: 2), will take place on September 9 (8:45 pm / RTL) in Wolfsburg. Three days later (9:00 p.m.) vice-world champions France are the next opponents in Dortmund.
