Kronstorf
Something finally has to happen on the so-called Google site in Kronstorf (Linzland area), which has now been vacant for 16 years: dm Pharmacy plans to build a new distribution center after the one in Enns reaches its maximum capacity limits.
The company announced on Wednesday that a plot of land had been contractually secured. About 300 jobs will be created there initially scheduled for 2027, according to managing director Stefan Heglauer.
Google changed its plans
In 2008, the American Internet company Google acquired a 70-hectare plot of land in Kronstorf in order to build a data center there. But then the company changed its plans. After the IT giant failed to fulfill contractually agreed construction obligations, the partial cancellation of the sale process was initiated through the regional Inkoba (inter-municipal business settlement, n.b.) association Kronstorf-Hargelsberg and the Austrian site agency Business Upper Austria. It was agreed that Google would retain 50 hectares and 20 hectares were bought back.
German mark with interest on half of the property
The dm has now been found to be an interested party in almost half of the 20 hectares mentioned on the B309. There was a “building permit granted under special conditions.” This ensures a “long-term public sector impact” as opposed to a sale, which is why the settlement decisions were taken unanimously, Hargelsberg mayors Christoph Lichtenauer and Kronstorf Christian Kolarek (both ÖVP) told the municipal association. .
State Counselor for Economic Affairs Markus Achleitner (ÖVP) described the new business site in Kronstorf as an “additional building block” in the key location strategy in Upper Austria, for which the state designated economic zones of supra-regional importance more than five years ago and which enables the country to “ Commercial settlements and expansions of strategic importance – “especially” also “for companies already located in Upper Austria”.
