Spanish football champions FC Barcelona capitalized on a mistake by arch-rival Real Madrid thanks to a fairytale debut by Marc Guyot to move back to third place.
Barcelona won the match at home against Athletic Bilbao 1-0 (0-0) and moved Atletico Madrid back to fourth place. Only one point missing from leaders Real Madrid.
Holders Barcelona started with German internationals Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ilkay Gundogan, but star striker Robert Lewandowski was still missing with a sprained ankle. In his absence, newcomer Joao Felix had the best chances for his team. Felix hit the crossbar first (tenth), then Unai Simon (58th) blocked his low shot in the second half.
The hero of the day was local Guiu. The 17-year-old striker made his professional debut in the 79th minute. In his first ever start, Felix sent him on seconds after being substituted and confidently scored the famous winner (80th minute).
At the age of 17 years and 291 days, the teenager became the player to score on his first appearance for Barcelona this millennium.
Girona, which beat Almeria 5:2 (3:2) on Sunday, remains level on points with league leaders Real. In a wild game, Girona came from 0-2 down, then made it 3-2 before half-time and eventually won comfortably.
In second place, the surprise team is equal with Real Madrid with 25 points, and Girona also has the best attack in La Liga with 24 goals. Real Madrid only played 1-1 (0-0) against Sevilla on Saturday.
