embarrassing change error
Wolfsburg threatens with a strange cup
This would be a very stupid appearance for Mark van Bommel at Wolfsburg VFL. Due to an embarrassing mistake, the Bundesliga club is threatened with the cup. In a hard-fought win over regional league team Bryusen Münster, the Dutch are violating the laws of the German Football Association.
An embarrassing mistake by new coach Mark van Bommel could cost German club Wolfsburg a place in the second round of the DFB Cup. In the lucky match 3:1 (1:1, 0:0) after extra time with regional league team Preußen Münster, the Dutchman made three more changes in extra time after three changes in regular time. However, the laws of the German Football Association (DFB) do not allow this. According to the Kicker report, referee Christian Dingert referred to a substitution error in the match report. VfL declined to comment on the incident when asked.
Monster can now protest the game’s rating. “Yes, we are aware that Wolfsburg have made six changes. We will discuss this internally and decide if and how we should proceed against it,” said coach Peter Niemeyer. The DFB Regulations state that “five players may be substituted in the next FA Cup season” and paragraph 31, point 3a continues as follows: “During a match, five players may be substituted. An additional one after this substitution is in matches with overtime.” not allowed “.
According to “Kicker”, the Wolfsburg team asked the fourth official during the match if another change was allowed. Coach Van Bommel Bild told that he asked the fourth official if he could make the sixth change: “I spoke to the referee about that.” In EM, an extra sixth change was still allowed in overtime.
The participant in the Champions League was almost eliminated in sporting terms. Central defender Marcel Hofmeier scored the surprising lead for the long-strong fourth division side (74) after a corner kick. Only Josep Priicalo equaled for the disappointing cup winner from 2015 in the 90th minute. Strikers Wout Weghorst (ranked 103) and Ridle Baku (120+1) met in hot overtime in front of 6,703 spectators for a massive victory for the largely disappointing guests.
