The author, played by Emma Mackey, grew up as the daughter of a pastor. She quickly gained a reputation for being rebellious. Nature serves her as a vanishing point, as a fantasy world in which to make up stories. However, this time it has an expiration date, as Emily is supposed to contribute to the family income as a governess. Only her equally rebellious brother Branwell (Fionn Whitehead) sympathizes with Emily’s needs until new tutor William Whitman shows up. A biopic that takes creative liberties while still feeling delightfully believable. A refreshing cinematic experience.
