Kylie’s lawyer had previously confirmed that his client was innocent. The judiciary accuses Kylie and other suspects of involvement in a criminal organization, money laundering and corruption. It is about alleged influence on the political decisions of the European Union Parliament by Qatar and Morocco. Investigators revealed this in December.
But Kylie’s lawyer blamed the Belgian authorities for her temporary detention conditions. “The conditions in a police cell in Brussels are reminiscent of the Middle Ages,” Michalis Dimitrakopoulos told international media Thursday afternoon. “It’s all torture.” Dimitrakopoulos alleged that Kylie was in solitary confinement and was deprived of sleep.
In all, she stayed at the police station from January 11 to 12 and is now being held in the prison in Haren, Dimitrakopoulos confirmed to dpa when asked. According to a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Justice, detainees at the recently opened prison are housed in their own cells with showers.
