Fans debate whether Starfield can top one of the best RPGs of all time: ‘I’d be blown away’

On social networks, some RPG fans are currently debating whether Starfield can surpass one of the best games in this genre.

On September 6th, 2023, Starfield, the latest role-playing game from Bethesda, will be released for Xbox Series X | S and PC – PS5 gamers won’t get anything, which is why a desperate fan is trying to petition Starfield to bring it to Sony’s console.

For the makers of Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, Starfield is also the first new franchise in 25 years, so the comparisons to other Bethesda titles are obvious.

There is also a heated discussion on the Reddit social network about how big Starfield is and whether it can surpass one of the best role-playing games of all time with Skyrim.

94 on Metacritic and 60 million units sold

What RPG does Starfield need to get past? Bethesda has set a milestone with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The role-playing game is very popular and successful to this day.

As recently as June, Starfield Games Director Todd Howard said in an interview with IGN (via Youtube), Skyrim has sold over 60 million copies.

Additionally, the PC version has a 94 score on review platform Metacritic and 94% positive reviews on Steam – with over 130,000 reviews.

Of course, it’s important to remember that the question was asked on the Starfield subreddit – among players who are already very interested in the game. However, there are some comments that confirm that they really liked Skyrim.

For many users, the answer is that for SciFi fans, Starfield can outpace Skyrim. Fantasy fans will likely continue to prefer Skyrim, though.
