According to dpa information, the RBB public service broadcasting board has fired Patricia Schlesinger as manager today. This officially begins the termination of the contract. The 61-year-old resigned about a week ago as head of ARD radio station Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) due to numerous allegations of nepotism. A few days ago she had already retired as president of ARD.
The case has plunged the broadcaster into an unprecedented crisis, which also has an impact on all public service broadcasters. Schlesinger has been a director since 2016. Her second term was supposed to last until 2026. The director and journalist face numerous allegations of nepotism. In addition to the 61-year-old, the focus is on RBB head coach Wolf-Dieter Wolff, who has also resigned. Both denied the allegations.
It also concerns the questionable orders of Schlesinger’s husband Gerhard Spurl at Messe Berlin, where Wolff was also chairman of the supervisory board until his resignation there. The Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating Schlesinger, former “Spiegel” journalist Spurl and Wolff on suspicion of infidelity and acceptance of benefits.
