Finland and the United States, who host the tournament, won their quarterfinals and advanced to the semifinals.
Finland had already lost 2-0 after 15 minutes against Slovakia, but changed the game and advanced to the last four with a 4-2 victory. Ilves striker Marco Antilla scored twice.
The United States beat Switzerland 3-0 in a match between No. 1 in Group A and No. 4 in Group B. Hosted by a brilliant Jeremy Swamen, the United States effectively presented themselves and thereby won the semifinals. Ben Meyers, who signed his first NHL contract with the Colorado avalanche a few weeks ago, built a brace on the American boys’ shutout victory.
Two semifinals take place on Saturday. Finland and the United States will fight at 1:20 pm, and four hours later Canada and the Czech Republic will battle it out to enter the gold medal game.
