It has been a long time coming, but now there is more information about the planned opening of a McDonald's branch in Schärding. In 2025, Big Macs, cheeseburgers and the like will also be available in the Baroque city. The company has now announced this. According to McDonald's spokesman Wilhelm Baldea, a specific start date for construction has not yet been set. It was already clear in the summer of 2022 that a restaurant of the global fast food chain would open on the site of the former Copay rubber factory in Linzer Straße. It was originally expected to open this year, but according to the company, the plans were postponed due to delays in discussions with “third parties involved in the project”.
With the new restaurant in Schärding, the fast food chain is expanding its branch network in the Innviertel. There have been locations in the other two district capitals, Braunau and Ried, for many years. There are also other branches not far from the German border in the neighboring cities of Pöcking and Passau.
