ShUnder the slogan “Young musicians play it”, the Waidhofen/Ybbstal Music School Association invited people to a folk concert with various bands in Blenkersal on Saturday evening.
Students from the Waidhofen/Ybbstal School of Music and Arts showed off their impressive skills last Saturday in the well-attended Plenkersaal. After a welcome from Music School Director Christian Blahaus, folk music professors Johannes Lagler, Petra Hampel and Gabriele Fahringruber gave an entertaining tour of the varied programme.
Ten bands from Opponitz, Ybbsitz and Waidhofen performed. Clarinet music, Opnitzer ZiachSoatnMusi, Junge Ybbsitzer Marktmusi, the Teufel brothers, D'Niglhoada, the 4-piece G'spann and Rettenbergmusi brought traditional folk music to the stage. Guest group Hoizknepf from Allhartsberg made people sit up and take notice of their interesting lineup, and they also incorporated recorders into their playing. The younger group, the Kronsteiner family music group from Konradsheim, also performed with confidence and impressed the audience.

Young talent impressed at Plenkersaal Waidhofen/Ybbs.
Under the slogan “Young musicians play music”, the Waidhofen/Ybbstal Music School Association invited people to a folk concert with different bands in Blenkersal on Saturday evening.
Santor player Marlene Katzensteiner performed the piece “Call and Response” with Johannes Lagler on accordion as the duo Katzensteiner & Lagler, which she will soon perform at the national competition “prima la musica” in Brixen. For scheduling reasons, Katzenschlager participated in the competition in Upper Austria, where she not only took first prize and was sent to the national competition, but was also chosen state-level winner.
Many bands will participate in the folk music competition in Krems again this year in May. “Because of this wonderful concert, I am convinced that our folk music section at Krems will achieve great success again this year,” director Blahous noted. “I wish you all the best!” Afterwards, everyone was invited to the theater café, where the event ended comfortably with more songs.
