BAris (dpa) – French Foreign Minister calls after violent submarine controversy Jean-Yves Le Trian America’s decisive action.
He said in a meeting with his US counterpart Anthony Bling that it would take time to end the crisis between the two countries. Le Trian saw the phone call between the two presidents on Wednesday as the first step towards reconciliation.
Last week, without consulting its allies, the United States launched a security agreement with Australia and Great Britain in the Indo-Pacific region, causing a deep diplomatic crisis with France. The deal broke the multi-billion dollar submarine deal between Australia and France, which led to angry reactions in Paris. Le Drian complained about the process in unusually sharp words. The French ambassadors to the United States and Australia have been summoned again for consultation.
A high-level phone call came in on Wednesday. US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron have agreed to meet in person in October. The recalled French ambassador will also return to Washington.
