MotoGP star Jorge Martin dropped important points in the world championship battle at the Misano Grand Prix. Pramac team principal Gino Borsoi is calm and has great confidence in his rider's abilities.
Jorge Martin's (Pramac Ducati) decision to stop and change bikes at the Misano Grand Prix turned out to be a mistake. He had to settle for 15th place and one point in the World Championship. The wrong decision cost him and the team important points in the overall standings.
Despite the disappointment of the failed race, Pramac team principal Gino Borsoy highlighted the positives. “There is no reason to make it dramatic because we are still seven points ahead. That means we have worked well so far. In the end, Jorge got a point – it’s not ideal, but that’s the race and sometimes something like that can happen,” he told his teammates at Marca.com.
“At this point it was really raining and the conditions on the track were bad in some sections,” continued Borsoy. “He felt he had to switch to the other bike and he did. Now it’s pointless to think about how things could have been different. The good thing is that we are continuing the pace and on a track like Misano, which has not suited us well in the past, Saturday showed that we are capable of winning. Now we will work on improving the areas where we still have a deficit.
Apart from the unfortunate incident at Misano, Martin has matured and become more consistent this season. Borsoy also sees it: “He is calmer and more ready to fight than he was in 2023. I personally trust him a lot and I am convinced that there will be no more problems from now on.”
As for the title race, the top four – Martin, Bagnaia, Marc Márquez and Bastianini – are currently separated by 62 points. There are still plenty of points to be won in the remaining 14 races. “Marc is very close, as is Bastianini. There are still a lot of races ahead and no one should be ruled out of the title race. “Having more rivals could also help us,” says Borsoy convinced.
