Harry Maguire has lost his place at Manchester United. Legendary Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini feels sorry for his England teammate.
“He’s a good player, his situation saddens me,” the 117-time Italy international revealed in an interview with The Times. Maguire “Not Rio Ferdinand, but he’s good enough.” Together with John Stones, Maguire makes up a good defender duo in the England national team.
Harry Maguire has commissioned his move from Leicester City Manchester United 87 million euros three years ago. With this transfer fee, he has become the most expensive new defensive signing in football history.
Don’t blame Harry Maguire
Giorgio Chiellini does not believe Maguire is measured by transfer fees. “Expectations are very high,” the 38-year-old said. “If it’s 80 million pounds, should he be the best in every game? It’s not true.” The transfer is not his “fault”.
Giorgio Chiellini knows very well what it means to sign with a big club in Europe. From 2005 to 2022 he played with Juventus Turin. In the recent transfer window, he moved to Major League Soccer on a free transfer and signed with Los Angeles Football Club.
