ILse Bernhard took over the directorship of the mixed choir of the Waidhofen Singing and Music Association in 1984, which has reached an impressive level under her work.
There was a special reason to celebrate last weekend with the mixed choir of the Waidhofen singing and music club. As part of the anniversary ceremony, choir director Elsie Bernhard was honored for her long years of service at City Hall.
President Rosalind Steinberger thanked the celebrant for the wonderful times we had together and for the great commitment. In 1984, Ilse Bernhard took over the leadership of the mixed choir, which under her careful leadership reached an impressive level and experienced significant growth. Already in her childhood she discovered her great love for music. At the age of 14, she was allowed to sing in the Albert Reiter Chamber Choir, where she also began her singing career. Afterwards, there were appearances at the Salzburg Festival under Nikolaus Harnoncourt and concerts with famous soloists such as Thomas Hampson.
A foray from 40 years of work
This evening the audience enjoyed a selection of songs from Ilse Bernhard's 40 years of work. Musical performances by three bands also impressed the audience. Concert-goers joined in singing songs together such as Franz Gehr's “Hoch vom Nebelstein” or Johannes Brahms' “Allow Me, Pretty Girl.” This led to an upbeat atmosphere in City Hall. “We are still looking for young singers, there is a rehearsal every Thursday,” Ilse Bernhard said afterwards, smiling.
