“Godzilla Minus One” broke records in America

The latest installment in the Godzilla series broke the record for the highest-grossing Japanese live-action film in the United States. The film’s production company, Toho Co., said the film grossed more than $14 million. reported on Thursday.

The film grossed $14.36 million in the U.S. through Tuesday, beating the previous record held by 1989’s “The Adventures of Milo and Otis.” The film was made in 1986, but had its US premiere 3 years later.

Takashi Yamazaki commented on the broken record as follows: “I’m glad that none other than Godzilla has broken the record that has not been broken for a long time.”

Ryunosuke Kamiki, who plays the main character in the new Godzilla spin-off film, said: “It’s like a dream for many people in America to see the film!”

The film is also slated to play on the 70th anniversary of the film series. The first part of the film series was released in 1954, which now includes 37 films with “Godzilla minus one”. “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” is the 38th film to be released in 2024.
