Google Pixel 8 Pro: first hands-on photos

Two images have surfaced on Reddit today that appear to show a Google Pixel 8 Pro prototype. They have since been deleted, along with the account that posted the photos. This is usually a good indication that these are not fake.

With its three main cameras, the Google Pixel 8 Pro matches both previous leaks and the predecessor Pixel 7 Pro in photos. The design of the back is still dominated by the well-known camera visor, which stretches across the entire width of the Pixel phone. The condition of the prototype is clearly identifiable by the label “For Testing/Evaluation Purposes Only”. Also, the Product Revision field shows the codename “husky”, which is known to belong to the Pixel 8 Pro. The test unit has 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM from Samsung and 128GB of UFS storage from SK Hynix.

The strange pattern of glass on the back could be some kind of spy movie to hide the actual design. At the same time, the camera module is a good indication that the design of the Google Pixel 8 Pro will be very close to that of its predecessor. Following the usual pattern for Google, both new Pixel phones won’t be available until October.

By the way, the circular unit under the LED flash is rumored to be an infrared thermometer. The Google Pixel 8 Pro is also said to come with a 6.7-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1,344 x 2,992 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The main 50MP camera on the back gets a large Samsung ISOCELL GN2 sensor and the ultra-wide angle gets a 64MP Sony IMX787 chip, as does the new zoom camera with 5x optical zoom. On the other hand, the 11MP front camera has been carried over from the predecessor. Of course, the new Tensor G3 chipset is also available.
