Recently, there have been increasing rumors about a possible delay of Grand Theft Auto VI. Now a former developer at Rockstar Games says when a statement can be made for sure in this regard.
Since the release of the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, things have been pretty quiet around Rockstar Games’ supposed action movie – aside from persistent rumors about a possible delay. The topic was brought up again recently after a report circulated that the release could be pushed back to 2026.
In the end, the reporter's sources turned out to be not very reliable, after all, well-known insider Jason Schreier managed to Bloomberg After consulting with six different Rockstar Games employees, they confirmed that nothing is known about a possible release delay there. Such a decision cannot be made with certainty at this time anyway, if we are to believe a former Rockstar employee and developer.
Obbe Vermeij has now commented on the ongoing delay rumors via social media. He previously worked as an art director at Rockstar North and in that role worked on GTA 3 and 4, Vice City, San Andreas and more.
According to Vermeij, the decision to postpone GTA 4 was made just four months before its planned release. At any other time, such a decision would have been difficult to make. In his opinion, this means in relation to GTA 6:[Rockstar] “They may not be able to say for sure whether they will commit to 2025 or not until around May.”
If the former Rockstar employee is right about this theory, then we can safely put all the rumors about GTA 6 being delayed from 2025 to rest in the current calendar year. Will there still be a delay to next year? Vermeij says: “GTA 6 will be selling for over 10 years and there is no real competition to worry about. They won’t release the game unless they are 100 percent happy with it – regardless of what they said in the trailer.”
But all of this is just an assessment of the former Rockstar employee, as he also confirmed that he has no inside information and has not spoken to anyone at Rockstar about this matter.
