Despite losing the first game after the international break to Salzburg, the Red Jackets started the most intense phase of the tournament with an impressive performance. KAC has only won a point twice in its last 17 matches. If there’s anything to complain about, it’s the substandard power-on ratio. In their last four games, Nick Petersen and company have not been able to score a single goal on eleven power play opportunities. Due to the failure of Jan Mursack and Thomas Hundertfond, two very important focal points in the attack were lost. At least coach Kirk Furey can resort to the latter in today’s away match against the Graz 99ers. The captain is fully functional again after his tonsil surgery and will give his team more space not only on the power play, but also in short-range games.

The 99ers recently gained a lot of self-confidence after a 4-0 win over Asiago. This is the fifth victory for the Styrian team in their seventh match. They are still at the bottom of the table, but the trend appears to be correct. After Graz’s recent series of successes, it is now only nine points away from qualifying for the playoffs.
