The Green Youth Board of North Rhine-Westphalia has announced that it is leaving the Green Party. The governing body announced in a press release that at the next state general meeting, all eight board members will not run again. It has been criticized that the Green Party did not pursue left-wing policies as desired. “Too often poor concessions are made instead of clearly advocating for social improvements,” she continued. “We no longer want to stick our necks out for policies that we find wrong.”
State spokeswoman Vivian Schwiderski accused the federal party and members of the Green Party government of supporting a “massive shift to the right” in asylum policy. “Whether they do it with or without a stomach ache doesn’t change the political outcome.” Shwederski also complained of deficits in the areas of redistribution, climate protection and social security.
The State Council for Green Youth in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern made a different decision. State spokeswoman Henriette Held said: “We share the criticism of the Green Party’s policies.” However, the State Council does not want to resign or resign. “We will all carry out our terms as planned.”
Resignation of the Federal Executive Council and four state executive councils
Last week, the Federal Executive Council of the Green Youth Party announced its withdrawal from the party. This was followed by the boards of youth organizations in Bavaria, Rhineland-Palatinate and Lower Saxony. The former Federal Executive Council now wants to establish a new left-wing movement.
The Green Youth Organization was founded in 1994, just under a year after the Greens united with the 90 Alliance. There are currently about 16,000 members organized in 16 regional federations. Membership typically expires on your 28th birthday.
