Gymnasiumstraße: The Mozart & Meisl is a place for every taste all year round

The “Mozart & Meisl” in Döbling is famous for its evening vermouth. A wide range of good dishes and drinks attracts the guests.

Vienna/Dubling. The “Mozart & Meisl” pub is a stone’s throw from Billrothstraße. Known to many on student or school days, it is a constant point of contact for students from the university dormitory on Hardtgasse or simply for those who want to enjoy a cold beer after work.

Owner Daniel Alexic took over the restaurant from the previous owners a few years ago and has been running it ever since with great drive and passion. The Modul School of Tourism graduate in Döbling changed the concept during the acquisition, but kept the basics like the name. “Mozart and Maisel,” says the restaurateur, will celebrate its 35th anniversary in the fall: “People from the neighborhood know the restaurant by that name, so why would you have to change a theme like that?”

A dish for every taste

There’s something for everyone on the menu: In addition to smashing burgers and beef—”beef tartare is one of our guests’ favorites, the smashburger idea comes from New York”—there are also classics from Italian cuisine and vegetarian dishes.

But seasonal dishes – such as asparagus risotto – are also served to guests in the restaurant. “We place great importance on cooking with seasonal produce from the region, such as pumpkin, asparagus or wild garlic. We mainly draw on classics from Austrian cuisine.” When it comes to wine, the focus is on regionalism: “In Döbling, people like to drink wine and the public knows their stuff, our wines come mostly from Austria,” says Aleksic.

Mozart and Maisel took part in the TV format “My Local, Your Local” and got the best ratings—a special experience, says Aleksic.

The “mozart & meisl” at Gymnasiumstraße 62 is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 6 pm to midnight. info at: www.mozart-meisl.at
