During rehearsals for the premiere of a family opera in Austria, gender roles are tested.
Men love to eat spicy foods and are only interested in football and women are interested in jewelry. If only everything were so simple and clear. But what is the male habit? Or really female? In the rehearsal for the Austrian premiere of the family opera Hamed and Sherifa at Chamber Opera, gender roles are tested.
All the roles in this opera, which premiered in 2015, are performed by three singers. Composer Zad Multaqa combines traditional Lebanese music with Western music. It uses an ensemble consisting of oboes, bassoons, double basses, and drummers.
Whether it's a man, a woman, or somewhere in between, love wins in the end. MusikTheater an der Wien's new production can be seen at the Kammeroper in April.
