The musical “My Fair Lady” celebrates its premiere at the Mörbisch Lake Theatre on Thursday night. The Lake Theatre becomes a vibrant London. Many prominent figures from politics, business, culture and high society have come to Mörbisch for the premiere.
“My Fair Lady is one of the most frequently performed musicals. It is based on the play “Pygmalion” by Nobel Prize-winning writer George Bernard Shaw. For the musical, Frederick Loewe composed melodies such as “It is so green when the flowers of Spain bloom” or “I was dancing today tonight”, a contemporary interpretation of which is played in Mörbisch. Director Alfons Haider welcomed many distinguished guests – such as Federal Minister Martin Polaszek, actor Christoph Kreutzler, cathedral priest Toni Faber and “Mausi Lügner”.
Haider: “A deeply enjoyable evening”
“It will be an entertaining evening with depth. We also show that the main problem in this piece is the search for the future, that is, without education. Eliza does not speak her language and this means that people stand outside the door. But we also notice that the theme, which has the slogan “From the flower girl to the princess”, is now more of interest to boys. “This is the second biggest success in the last ten years of the festival,” said Haidar before the premiere.

The musical takes place in London, and a striking feature of the stage design is the bell tower on the small island behind the stage. The Elizabeth Tower with the famous Big Ben is a model of London. In terms of content, “My Fair Lady” is about Eliza Doolittle, who comes from a poor background and can barely speak her native language. Linguist Professor Higgins transforms her into a beautiful lady and her life changes completely. 21-year-old Anna Rosa Dowler plays Eliza. Professor Higgins sings the musical star Mark Siebert. Simon Eichenberger directs and choreographs. Walter Vogelweder designed the stage design.
