The first horror film of the year “M3GAN” has just opened in theaters and the news about the next big horror is already doing the rounds. The indie film “Skynamarink” is shocking audiences in the US and may soon come to Germany.
Experimental horror film Skinamarink comes from YouTuber Kyle Edward Bell, who is making his directorial debut and made Skinamarink in his old home on a $15,000 budget. After the film debuted at the Montreal Fantasia Film Festival in July 2022, a copy of the film was accidentally leaked and ended up on the Internet. The film was promoted on the social media app Tik Tok, resulting in the opening of Skynarink in select theaters across the United States on January 13, 2023.
Kyle Edward Bell’s directorial debut has had mixed reactions. Critics believed the film was unusual and compared “Skynamarin” to “The Blair Witch Project”. Like the 1999 found footage film, “Skynamarin” received mixed reactions from audiences.
Not every moviegoer is interested, and some don’t want to process what they’ve experienced. “Skynamarin” is about two children who wake up one night and cannot find their father. The two of them sneak through this nightmare in the dark, when even the doors and windows of the house disappear.
The horror film doesn’t have a German release date yet. The hype that “Skynamarink” is currently fueling on Tik Tok can confirm that the film will soon be coming to us in Germany. In addition to a theatrical release, a launch with a streaming service is also possible.
