The ongoing heat wave in the Mediterranean can contribute to the formation of hurricanes. According to meteorologists, the warm sea acts like a power tank that can literally “explode” due to cold air currents. Such devastating hurricanes used to occur only once every hundred years, but now they are happening more frequently.
Impressive water fountains were also spotted in other parts of southern Italy, and the mayor of Santa Flavia near Palermo described an “apocalyptic scenario” after seeing a tornado. Fortunately, there were no casualties in Basilicata and the tornado dissipated shortly after making landfall.
