90 mins: Back to the national team. How exhausting is flying to Europe for hours?
Pundit: For me, aside from the travel hassles, it has more pros than cons. A few years ago the game plan was adapted to FIFA windows. From this perspective, compliance with storage obligations is not a problem. The rest of the sports calendar (note: the season runs from March to November) also applies to me.
I'm fine with no winter sports at Christmas time. You can switch off completely, and in France there was a maximum of ten days of winter break, so in principle it was played out. I also don't like playing in the cold. (laughs)
90 mins: Let's talk European Championship qualification. How much does it hurt?
Pundit: Of course it was disappointing, but the good thing is that we still have a chance and we want to qualify for the European Championship again. It's still possible, a detour. But qualifying for the finals should always be seen as a victory for a country like Austria.
90mins: Why are these few percent missing here and there? Some experienced female kickers have already left, perhaps talking about a change.
Pundit: There are probably many reasons and it could be a contributing factor. No country is sleeping, all are developing and there are no easy games in League A. I think it has become more difficult to qualify for the Nations League.
So I think a lot of factors came together. First, we have to question ourselves because we are not performing well enough to qualify immediately. But like I said, the opportunity is still there and we want to take advantage of it now.
90 mins: Fortunately, a lot is coming. Not just Campbell or Hobinger, but the U20 World Cup made it to the round of 16.
Pundit: We have super young players who are well trained and very talented. No need to worry about it.
90 mins: Will they all play in the 2027 World Cup – with or without Sarah Bundy?
Pundit: As of today, it is realistic that I will play in the qualifiers and the World Cup will be the crowning glory. First and foremost, I want to be fit and healthy and have fun playing sports. Now we have to qualify for EURO first and then we will see what happens.
90 minutes: Thanks for the interview!
