American singer Gloria Gaynor, best known for her hit song “I Will Survive”, celebrated her 80th birthday with congratulations from all over the world. “Thank you all so much for all of your wonderful messages and comments today on my 80th birthday,” Gaynor wrote on Instagram on Thursday.
“You are all so cute and amazing!!! I love you all so much!!!” The singer, who was born in 1943 in the US state of New Jersey, achieved international fame in the 1970s and 1980s with songs such as “I Will Survive” and “I Am What I Am”.
Singer Gloria Fowles was born on September 7, 1943 in Newark, New Jersey. She sang in a band in the early 1960s before releasing her first solo single in 1965. However, the first real hits were still 10 years away. She drew attention to herself in 1975 with the album “I Can’t Say Goodbye”. The actual breakthrough came in 1978 with “I Will Survive” – although the song was actually only the B-side of the “Substitute” single. But more and more DJs played the B-side – and so the piece became one of the singer’s biggest hits.
