In the first match of the World Cup in Utica (New York), the Swiss faced the home team and the favorites of the tournament. They eventually lost 4-0 against the reigning champions of the United States without standing a chance.
Colin Muller's side and goalkeeper Andrea Brundley in particular made a strong start. It was 0-0 until the 26th minute – and then Hallie Wynn scored the Americans' first goal. Three more followed in the 37th, 51st and (again the win) 55th minute.
In the Swiss goal, 26-year-old Andrea Brindley had a strong performance: four goals she gave up and 51 shots saved.
The next tough task awaits the Swiss women: on Friday (9pm CET) they meet the Olympic champions from Canada.
