Barcelona (SID) – An unpleasant surprise for Spanish football icon Xavi: FC Barcelona coach, future coach of world footballer Robert Lewandowski, could not travel to the United States with the Catalan team as planned on Saturday. Because he was in Iran three times as a player with Al Sadd / Qatar, he needs special permission from the US authorities.
The world and European champion played his last game as an active player in the Iranian capital, Tehran. Barcelona initially confirmed the problems on Friday but said there was a solution. But on Saturday, the 42-year-old was unable to board the plane that was supposed to take him to the United States.
Media reports said the Barcelona coach wants to leave for Miami on Monday. Arriving in Florida should be such that the former midfield strategist can get back to work in time for his team’s last training session ahead of Tuesday night’s friendly against Inter Miami.
The Barcelona squad included new signings Ravenha, Andreas Christensen (former Borussia Moenchengladbach) and Frank Kessie. On the other hand, Lewandowski, who was committed on Saturday night, is expected to join his new team only during the US tour.
On July 24, Barcelona will play another friendly match in the United States against their arch-rivals and Champions League champion Real Madrid. On July 27, Italian champions Juventus Turin will be the contender, and on July 31 they will face the New York Red Bulls.
Barcelona agreed with Bayern Munich on Saturday evening to transfer Lewandowski for a fee of 45 million euros and up to five million euros in bonuses.
